Day Dreaming…
Sitting here in the desert on a hot October day I’m daydreaming about the green moss, rushing water and cooler temperatures of Silver Falls State Park, Oregon!
Last fall we visited Oregon and I knew of Silver Falls State park which is about 20 miles from Salem. We couldn’t fit our rig at the State park campground which would have been super ideal, but we found a beautiful rv park called Silver Spur RV Park in Silverton, Oregon which was quick and easy to access the Silver Falls park.
The RV park had a nice layout with full hookups, a hot tub and a swimming pool. It was too cool for the pool, but perfect for the hot tub! Great way to meet people and socialize too.
Half way between Silverton and Silver Falls we found a lake called Silverton Reservoir that was perfect for kayaking. Lots of outdoor adventurous places in the area including some fabulous bike trails.
Silverton itself is a quaint little town with a small river running through its downtown area that houses lots of antique stores, restaurants, breweries and bars. Just the type of place we like to walk around and explore!
One of my favorite spots was the Gear-Up coffee shop just down the road from the rv park. They created the most amazing little donuts hand decorated daily and just the right size to allow yourself to try a few. The atmosphere was cheerful with lots of locals meeting with friends. Can really get the vibe of a place for its local coffee shops.
The highlight really was Silver Falls State park! This park has a 9 mile loop trail that takes you through a beautiful rain forest past 10 waterfalls! Yes 10! And these are not small waterfalls either.
The smallest is about 30ft and the tallest about 175ft, so these waterfalls are all magnificent. The trail is fairly easy to hike and also allows you to walk right under some of the falls.
The views are spectacular but the pictures don’t do it justice and don’t allow you to feel the air and experience the sounds!
The sound of the water is mesmerizing! The feel of the air is cool, refreshing and full of water energy.
If you’re ever in Oregon it’s a must visit place, even if just for an afternoon to see some of the waterfalls. All are easily accessible and a few are right close to the parking areas.
And if you do go, let us know! Love to come join you there again!
